New 2021 Edition of the INSITE Development Checklist:
A Comprehensive Development Checklist for Young Children
with Sensory Impairments and Additional Disabilities (0-5 years)

  • Instruction Manual
  • Text Booklet for each child
  • Free download INSITE Checklist Excel Score Sheet
  • New Scoring reporting App (not yet available)

The latest edition (2021) of the INSITE Checklist Instruction Manual and Test Booklet are now available!

THE INSITE CHECKLIST INSTRUCTION MANUAL. The instruction manual has been completely updated to reflect more current practice in assessment, goal setting, and early intervention planning for young children with Sensory Impairments and Additional Disabilities (0-5). It emphasizes embedding goals and interventions in daily routines.

Domains have been expanded to include more items in order to more specifically assess child skills and set more appropriate goals. Some domains have been consolidated into fewer domains for ease of use, with special notes added under “Notes for Complex Needs”. Every domain has expanded discussions about the unique challenges of children with sensory impairments and additional disabilities. The checklist has updated resources and references.

THE INSITE CHECKLIST TEST BOOKLET. The 4 forms that have been previously used (0-2 checklist, 0-6 checklist, Profile & Score Sheet only for 0-2, 0-6) are now consolidated into one test booklet. One booklet is needed for each child. The test booklet includes the test booklet itself, quick instructions, and scoring and reporting forms.

THE INSITE CHECKLIST EXCEL SCORE SHEET. The Excel score sheet can make scoring and reporting of the INSITE Checklist easier and faster. Once the parent advisor has entered child information/data on the Excel Score Sheet, the Excel Program will calculate developmental level scores (in months) for subdomains and domains (like Auditory, Cognition etc., domains), and also for the overall developmental score for the entire checklist. You can download free the INSITE Checklist Excel Score Sheet by clicking below (far right under Excel Score Sheet).

THE INSITE CHECKLIST IPAD APP.  Will be announced when ready. This iPad app is an electronic version of the INSITE Checklist that includes electronic scoring and reporting.

3rd Edition (2020) of the SKI-HI Language Development Scale:
Assessment of Language Skills for Children Who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing (0-5 years)

  • LDS Instruction Manual
  • LDS Individual Test Form
  • Spanish version of the Individual Test Form

Individual Test Forms

LDS INSTRUCTION MANUAL.  The 3rd edition (2020) of the SKI-HI Language Development Scale (LDS) is available (62 pages). The Language Development Scale is used in partnership with families to identify and discuss the language progress of the child so that the child will have ongoing appropriate programming and full language access in order to be ready for preschool. The scale is in the Instruction Manual along with rationale on development, research information and instructions for administering, scoring and recording. The same basic administration and scoring procedures are still in the 3rd edition, but very helpful new and updated information has been added.  For example, American Sign Language (ASL) milestones have been added to more effectively assess the early development of ASL.  These milestones are of great importance to Deaf Mentors and Parent Advisors as they work with families and children who are acquiring ASL.

The 3rd edition can be used with any child/family in early intervention using any communication approach including Listening and Spoken Language (LSL), Cued Speech, Simultaneous Communication (“Total Communication”), ASL, and ASL/English Bilingualism.  The scale is easy to use, research-based and illustrated.

Some updated/new information in the 3rd edition includes: specific definitions and examples, updated references, additional data reporting options, sharing results with families, and ASL principles, rules, and gloss referred to in the LDS scale.

LDS INDIVIDUAL TEST FORM. The Individual Test Form (the scale itself) that is used with each child is also available (26 pages). The test form includes a child data sheet to record ongoing child assessments.

SPANISH VERSION OF THE INDIVIDUAL TEST FORM. A new material that is now available is the 2021 Spanish version of the LDS test form.

“This 2020 version of the LDS is so very helpful to me as a provider.  I love the examples and family friendly ways it is written so that parents and I can work together to monitor their child’s language progress.”

Amanda Hammond, M.S.
Parent Advisor and National Trainer

“This version of the LDS is wonderful! It provides specific ASL milestones for little ones, raising the bar to ensure that deaf children will develop age-appropriate language in both ASL and English.”

Jodee Crace, M.A.
Deaf Mentor and National Trainer
